Beginning in the 2010-2011 school year, Castleberry’s “Connected Learning” Project began to bring one-to-one computing to the students at Castleberry ISD. As of 2017-2018, every 5th through 12th grade student was issued a device allowing learning to take place beyond the school walls. Each 5th grader is issued a new Chromebook that will be reissued to them each year through the 8th grade. In the 9th grade, students are issued a netbook that will be reissued to them each year until the graduate from CISD. In the 2018-2019 school year, students in 4th grade classes will also have 1-to-1 access with Chromebooks.
Why the shift from traditional textbooks to one-to-one computing? In order for students to be competitive in today’s global society, students must use 21st Century Skills in order to learn new things, collaborate with others, and be creators of multimedia content. The National Technology Plan states, “The challenge for our education system is to leverage technology to create learning experiences that mirror students’ daily lives and the reality of their futures.” The Castleberry “Connected Learning” Project is our roadmap to achieving this national goal.
CISD is committed to providing our students with the best technology and learning opportunities that will prepare them to be self-empowered learners throughout their lives.
