In-Person Enrollment Increases at Castleberry ISD

Despite the increase in Coronavirus cases in Tarrant County, the number of students attending in-person learning at Castleberry ISD campuses has increased. Although the district began the 2020-2021 school year with all students remote, at the beginning of the second six weeks, Castleberry ISD opened campus doors allowing parents the option of selecting the method of instruction that they preferred for their children. Overall, the district saw 47% of students return to in-person learning at the beginning of the second six weeks. Teachers began teaching in a dual environment classroom, which allowed for in-person and remote students to receive the same instruction during the class session.

Throughout the school year, parents have been given the opportunity to change their child’s method of instruction, if desired. By the end of the first semester, Castleberry ISD saw a 16.5% increase for a total of 63.5% of parents opting for their child(ren) to receive their education in-person. As of February 1, 2021, 67.9% of students have returned to in-person instruction.

The health and safety of our students, staff, and family members are a top priority at Castleberry ISD. Upon entry to any campus, staff and students are required to take their temperature daily. In addition to the required mask mandates for Tarrant county, the district has implemented increased sanitation procedures for frequently touched areas throughout the day. District leaders and school faculty and staff continue to encourage students to avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth, maintaining social distancing, and washing hands for a minimum of 20 seconds. As a result of adhering to the safety protocols outlined by CISD, only 3% of students have tested positive since the beginning of the school year.

Despite the increase of students choosing in-person learning as their instructional method, teachers continue to simultaneously teach in-person and remote students via the technological platforms available, such as Google Meets and Canvas. Parents have been asked to commit to a method of instruction for their child, which helps faculty and staff better prepare for the next day.

As of the fourth six weeks, students and parents have committed to the chosen method of instruction for the grading period. Parents wishing to change the method of instruction during the six weeks may seek approval through their campus administration.
